Pioneering Swiss watchmaker Swatch presented SWATCH BELLAMY, the new "pay-by-the-wrist" watch, at the landmark Swatch Art Peace Hotel in Shanghai today. Swatch has joined forces with China UnionPay and Bank of Communications to introduce contactless payment "by-the-wrist" to China. The first four watches combine exciting, colorful yet functional Swatch design with built-in NFC (Near Field Communication) technology, allowing people to use their watches to pay for purchases in shops and stores around the country.

In his fascinating 1888 novel "Looking Backward 2000-1887", American writer Edward Bellamy envisions a utopian world in which cash has been replaced by credit/debit cards — Bellamy was the first to write about such cards, forty years before anyone else. Always happy to acknowledge fellow innovators and visionaries, Swatch has named its new pay-by-the-wrist watch "SWATCH BELLAMY".

SWATCH BELLAMY celebrated its worldwide premiere at a press conference held October 14, 2015 at The Swatch Art Peace Hotel on the Bund in Shanghai. Swatch Group CEO Nick Hayek, China UnionPay Vice Chairman Chen Zhi and Bank of Communications General Manager of Personal Finance Services Department Tao Wen presented the project to the guests and the press at the landmark hotel and site of the watchmaker's renowned artist-in-residence program. The three key players then signed the partnership agreement. The new payment option with SWATCH BELLAMY will be rolled out by the partners across China in the coming months, starting in January 2016.

SWATCH BELLAMY will soon be launched in Switzerland with a Swiss bank and secure transaction partner, as well as in the USA.

Swatch is proud to present "Mother River", an extraordinary work of contemporary art by the British-Chinese photographer Yan Wang Preston, a former artist-in-residence of The Swatch Art Peace Hotel. The traveling exhibition premiered earlier this year at the Swatch Pavilion at Arsenale Nord at la Biennale Arte 2015 and is now continuing its journey to Shanghai – at The Swatch Art Peace Hotel.

Yan Wang Preston's Mother River project tells a powerful and moving story. From its source in the Tibetan Plateau the Yangtze River runs through vast and varied landscapes across China to Shanghai. The artist undertook nine separate excursions to photograph her subject in a very particular way: at 100-kilometer intervals across the entire 6,211 km course of the river. The exhibition, which opened September 11, presents a selection of 66 large-format photographs at The Swatch Art Peace Hotel in Shanghai.

This year, Swatch took some time to study abroad, but this too-cool-for-school brand majored in culture, art, fashion and fun and skipped the lecture halls. The street-beat styles of the Fall-Winter Collection 2015 are loud and exotic, each moving to the tick of its own movement; these bright and bouncy time-keepers make a statement about the beautiful things that can be created when the cultures of the world are combined!

Modern with a clean-cut fashion sense, sleek Tech-Mode is creatively ma-chined and is a tad more serious with stealth style and contemporary pa-nache. If Tech-Mode is understated then Sport Mixer is quite the opposite, grabbing attention left and right with go-getter color blocks that steal the limelight. Playful patterns and lively mojo make Exotic Charm something worth meditating about. Bold Street Energy lets your wrist do the talking with not-so-secret messages that are exceptionally expressive. Après-Ski is preppy and posh on and off the slopes and its winter-themed glam is the stuff of holiday dreams. Grüezi All! lets you Swiss your wrist and proves that life’s greatest pleasures start with CH – chocolate, cheese and chalets.

Freeskier and Swatch Proteam athlete Samuel Anthamatten is a man of the mountains: he grew up in Zermatt, at the foot of the legendary Matterhorn, and still lives in the Swiss Alpine village today. A certified professional mountain guide, he has climbed “big walls” in Switzerland, Canada, Patagonia and the Himalayas, established a new alpine route across the North Face of the Matterhorn, and made the first ascent of the Jesemba South Face (7,350 meters) in Nepal. Inspired by Samuel Anthamatten and his amazing achievements as a mountaineer and freeskier, Swatch is proud to present SWATCH THE ROUTE, a rugged Sports Special celebrating his extraordinary talent and his commitment to Zermatt and the Matterhorn.
Today’s climbers come armed with light-weight, high-tech tools, but the early days saw Alpine pioneers outfitted with rough, often rudimentary equipment —little more than an ice ax, ropes and exceptional courage. The dial of SWATCH THE ROUTE shows a map of the Matterhorn with a red line charting the route of the first successful ascent to the 4,478 meter summit. The black hour and minute hands show an ice ax and hook – still essential tools for anyone brave enough to challenge the mountain. Samuel Anthamatten commented, “The first successful climb of the Matterhorn followed a line that until 1865 was considered absurd and unconquerable, but in the end it is the ‘simplest’ and most logical route. Thanks to Swatch I had the opportunity to design a watch for my “home mountain”, and from now on, every time I climb the Matterhorn I’ll be wearing the watch on my wrist.”

Thousands of Alpine adventurers have climbed the fabled peak, and a few, like Samuel Anthamatten, have even traced new routes to the top. Today the Matterhorn remains both a daunting challenge and a world-renowned symbol of Switzerland and exceptional achievement.

SWATCH THE ROUTE (SUOZ199S) is available in a limited edition of 4,478 pieces – recalling the height of the Matterhorn - in special packaging which takes up the mountaineering theme as an extension of the watch design. A canvas pouch evocative of pioneering mountain equipment holds an inlay Plexiglas box and within it the new watch.

Swatch and the world’s most prestigious contemporary art exhibition have joined forces to support art and artists at the 56th International Art Exhibition – La Biennale di Venezia. Renowned for its collaborative work with artists, today Swatch is proud to present the first of several Swatch Art Specials to be released during the preview days of La Biennale Arte 2015: FUTURING BY EVA & ADELE.
EVA & ADELE are contemporary artists based in Berlin. The duo coined the word “futuring”, turning “the future” into a verb designating a time unfinished, caught up in the process of developing and revealing itself, challenging people to take an active role in shaping their own future. Futuring is also the principle of the artists’ performance, the unquestioned freedom of sexual self-determination that EVA & ADELE themselves represent. Their work has been exhibited in museums and galleries in Europe and around the world, including the MoMA PS1 in New York, the Kunsthaus in Zurich and many other public collections worldwide, although as they say, “wherever we are is museum”. Indeed, their presence transforms any venue into a museum, and from May through August their work and paintings will be on show in the Swatch Art Specials gallery, a dedicated space within the Swatch presence at the Arsenale Nord.

The Swatch Art Special created by EVA & ADELE in collaboration with Swatch is called FUTURING BY EVA & ADELE. Its gold-colored, glittery dial backgrounds three global messages from the artists, presented in bright pink lettering (their favorite color): WORLD COMMUNICATIVE, GLOBAL PLASTIC, FUTURING, and is enhanced by a transparent pink plastic strap with a gold-colored print pattern. EVA & ADELE consider their Swatch to be conceptual and sensual at the same time, inspired by the EVA & ADELE GESAMTKUNSTWERK (TOTAL WORK OF ART). They see the packaging and the watch as a biographical sculpture. The EVA & ADELE heart-head logo at the end of the bracelet represents the performative element of their internationally world-renowned appearances. The EVA & ADELE–invented word from 1991, FUTURING, which EVA & ADELE have used since then as a synonym for performance and art, stands in the center of the dial and symbolizes the artists’ avant-garde approach.

FUTURING BY EVA & ADELE is available in a limited and numbered edition of 585 pieces, in a shiny box in pink and gold, with the limited edition number appearing both on the back of the watch and inside the Special Packaging. An unlimited but otherwise identical edition will be available from early June.

Swatch is proud to announce that one of the world’s largest Swatch collections in private hands, comprising more than 5,800 Swatches and art collected over 25 years, has been sold for HK$46.7 Million / US$6 Million to a European Institution. According to Sotheby’s, the winning bid was placed by phone after over 30 bids from at least 3 bidders.
The seller, Mr Paul Dunkel, commented after the sale, “I have been very happy and emotional to see the international interest in my collection over the past months. This is a true testament to the universal appeal of Swatch. I would like to deeply thank Sotheby’s for their hard work, as well as my art advisor, 1858 Limited, for expertly managing all aspects of the sale on my behalf. I wish the new owner of these 5,800 pieces all the best and hope the collection will bring to others as much joy as I have had with it over the last 25 years of this adventure.”

Swatch partners with the 56th International Art Exhibition of la Biennale di Venezia, calling artists from The Swatch Art Peace Hotel in Shanghai to Venice to live art at the Arsenale.

The love affair that is Swatch & art is on the move again, from Shanghai to Venice and months of exciting action at the 56th International Art Exhibition of la Biennale di Venezia. Swatch and la Biennale di Venezia have renewed and strengthened their partnership in advance of the upcoming 56th edition of the world’s most prestigious exhibition of contemporary art, opening in May under the title “All the World’s Futures” given by its curator, Okwui Enwezor, and runs through November 2015.

Swatch has great plans for its romance with art and Venice. Taking up its Swatch Faces theme, the brand will present art as a force for change in the work of artists-in-residence from The Swatch Art Peace Hotel. In little over three years, Swatch has hosted more than 150 artists in the landmark hotel on the Bund in Shanghai, where it has dedicated two entire floors to workshops and living quarters for artists from all over the world, along with generous space for performances and exhibitions of their work.
And now the artists are coming to Venice! The 18 artists currently living and working in The Swatch Art Peace Hotel will form a bridge from Shanghai to Venice and la Biennale Arte 2015. Their “Swatch Faces” (photographic portraits and representative artwork) will be presented on an Art Wall installed at the Swatch Pavilion. From May through November 2015, selected artists-in-residence from The Swatch Art Peace Hotel will be working “live” as guests of Swatch at Swatch Faces 2015 – Pavilion at Arsenale. A historic address in the Arsenale — shipyards of the Republic of Venice and a major exhibition site for la Biennale — Swatch Faces 2015 – Pavilion at Arsenale will host a series of artists-in-residence, their personal exhibitions and a range of other exciting events.

The other major, must-see venue at the 56th International Art Exhibition of la Biennale di Venezia is the Giardini area, Swatch Faces 2015 – Pavilion at Giardini, site of thirty historic national pavilions. Here too, Swatch has a surprise in store: a renowned contemporary artist will create a work for Swatch on site.

There’s more to be said and even more to see, including new Swatch Art Specials to be launched in Venice during the exhibition. Further details will be made known in the weeks to come, and at the press conference set for May 7, 2015 at the Piccolo Teatro Arsenale, Venice.

She coached you in saying thank you after meals at friends’ places, even when spinach was involved. She taught you to take the smallest piece of cake. She gently reminded you not to talk with your mouth full. Now it’s time for her to reap the rewards of her efforts with an elegant invitation in watch form. On the Swatch Mother’s Day Special 2015, ROSES4U, the picnic rug has been spread out, the flowers arranged and good times are on the menu.

Moms everywhere will love this gift, which is guaranteed to outlive any bouquet and requires neither water nor a vase. A beautiful ring of roses takes the place of numbers, embracing a smaller circle of rosebuds, symbolic of the unique mother and child bond that even adulthood can’t dilute. The flower power theme is bursting out all over the textile strap with pretty pink embroidered blooms popping up through the turquoise gingham picnic blanket. Do the words, “I only have two hands” sound familiar as a calming motherly request for patience? Relax, ROSES4U has a third hand to ensure that no single second slips by uncherished. This adorably feminine timepiece magically mirrors maternal multitasking. It recalls memories of sunny days spent together, celebrates Mother’s Day 2015 and reminds the giver to schedule future shared moments with the person that gave them the gift of life.

Swatch wishes Moms and their loyal fans everywhere a happy Mother’s Day – and kindly reminds them to always clean their teeth after eating cup cakes.

Discover Swatch at Expo Milano 2015, with two new collections celebrating the event and the energy of Mediterranean cuisine and the all-new “Swatch EXPerience” store! And, in the centre of Milan, the Swatch countdown clock adds rhythm to Expo.

Swatch’s sponsorship with Expo Milano 2015 centres on the key theme of the exhibition – the importance of nourishment, both physical and cultural, for the planet’s well-being: a theme of global importance which is entirely in the spirit of the Swiss brand. A forward-looking sponsorship that confirms the ideal, concrete integration of the flavors of Expo Milano 2015 with the know-how behind Swatch innovation and design, in the common hope of bringing added energy, value and a pinch of irony to life.

Swatch, the Official Watch & Timekeeper Sponsor at the great Universal Exhibition, has created two watch collections specifically for Expo Milano 2015. The official collection includes three styles bearing the event’s colours and logo on the dial and strap, paying homage to Expo Milano 2015 and to the city of Milan, with which Swatch has a historic affinity. The other collection, Mediterranean Dolce Vita, includes four watches – Tomatella, Onione, Vitamine Boost, and Sardina – which Swatch dedicates to the pillars of the Mediterranean diet, underlining how good food can be both healthful and enjoyable. The four styles are also available in a special “food package” in a limited edition of 500, available exclusively at the “Swatch EXPerience” Store.

Swatch, the world’s best-known watch brand, will also be at Expo Milano 2015 with an innovative, original “Swatch EXPerience” Store across from the China Pavilion: the allegory of a merry-go-round recalls the brand’s playful character and offers a fun attraction for children of all ages. There are also three great expressions of “street food”: a Sicilian cart serving up the Mediterranean Dolce Vita collection, a hot dog cart selling urban Irony watches, and a colorful ice cream truck offering Flik-Flaks in all flavors.

Throughout Expo Milano 2015 an illuminated Swatch watch/totem over 4 metres high set up in Via Beltrami, across from the Expo Gate, will continue to measure the days, hours and minutes until Expo closes. Made up of cubes in the official colors of the World’s Fair, with moving parts (the Expo Milano 2015 logo and the Swatch Swiss cross), the totem underlines the dynamism of a brand with a touch of irony that always has a surprise in store.

Swatch introduces the latest and lightest collection of Irony products, using a bi-material construction to mix- and shape-up twelve new fun and punchy watch designs.

Following a quick trip to the future where cool materials and fusion fashion are the norm, Swatch is excited to introduce XLite, a sleek, sporty ambassador and the face of Swatch’s latest, lightest collection: Irony XLite.

While swimming pools and long walks in the rain might not be this mechanical celebrity’s cup of tea, he certainly digs Swatch’s futuristic bi-material watches which blend smooth aluminum with brightly colored plastic for ultra-lightweight fun and statement-making style. XLite is a robot with a sense of humor and pokes light-heartedly at the stereotypical celebrity watch testimonial and humanizes the entire collection in the way only a robot can.

The showstoppers in the Irony XLite collection combine modern design with fun and energetic colors. These contemporary pieces have a cool flair that proves to be just as functional as it is dynamic and eye-catching. Exuding sci-fi allure, the chronographs in the collection are sleek state-of-the-art attention grabbers that are unlike anything Irony has ever seen. Characterized by the vibrancy that Swatch knows best, the bold bi-material watches are prepared for a future full of non-stop action and adventure.

These ticking innovations bring a new sheen to the Irony collection and you’ve only just seen the beginning.
