Popular Swiss watchmaker and extreme sports enthusiast Swatch is proud to present the 2009 UCI BMX Supercross World Tour. A thrilling, crowd-pleasing sport that demands the best from courageous riders, BMX (Bicycle Moto Cross) events never fail to generate excitement. Fearsome start ramps, intimidating obstacles and harrowing turns challenge daredevil riders from around the world—including three members of the Swatch ProTeam— to deliver their absolute best performance.

The 2009 UCI BMX World Cup will see fantastic competitions taking place at four superb venues in Denmark, South Africa, the United States and France. This year’s opening round takes place May 8th and 9th at the spectacular BMX Supercross track in Copenhagen. Last year’s World Cup drew some 150 competitors to each round, an average of 5,000 spectators at the venues and growing TV audiences. This year’s World Tour events are expected to draw even greater numbers as crowds flock to the tracks to watch their favourite riders perform.

Swatch first served as title sponsor for the Swatch BMX World Cup and World Championships in the late nineties, and renewed its support for the popular sport as Official Timekeeper and Data Handler for the 2007 UCI BMX World Cup and World Championships. In 2008 Swatch reinforced its commitment to BMX with a four-year agreement to serve as Presenting Sponsor of the UCI BMX World Cup through 2011. Swatch is pleased to note the growing acceptance and popularity of BMX around the world, which culminated in 2008 with the first-time appearance of BMX as a competitive sport at the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games.

Swatch has also thrown the weight of its global brand behind key BMX competitors. Three high-profile members of the Swatch ProTeam will take Swatch brand values to the UCI BMX World Cup this year: Rob “Afro Bob” de Wilde is a top performer and one of the world’s most experienced BMX racers; his 20-year old fellow flying Dutchman Martijn Scherpen is already a champion many times over, and New Zealand’s Marc Willers has proven himself to be one of the World Tour circuit’s top riders.
