| Personality | Quote: “Most of the time in normal life, you don't face danger that often, so you don't know your limits and you don't know what you're capable of. I think that's quite sad. At least with surfing you can explore your own boundaries.” No wonder, Sam is a master of injuries: Loads of stitches (some administered by his girlfriend), snapped/ torn/ tweaked knee ligaments, broken foot, snapped arm, ruined shoulder (AC joint). | |
| Specialities | The “Big Wave Project” saw Sam hit the national headlines, in February 2006, when he became only one of an elite few to successfully ride the phenomenon known as the “Cribbar” swell. This wave hits the Cornish coast only one or twice a year and lasts just a couple of hours. The wave travels at 40 mph, and often reaches a height of 35 ft (10 m), creating a force of around 6,000 lb per square inch. Sam has developed the technique of riding big waves and towing them in — a surfing niche pioneered in the UK by Sam himself. | |
| Sidelines | Snowboarding, football, golf, tennis Writing, eating, drinking and general frolicking Wants to overhaul the entire education system so that kids actually enjoy going to school while being instilled with a sense of responsibility and respect towards each other |

Actually, Sam would be the incarnate nightmare of all health insurers. There may well be anatomical lexica which list fewer injuries than Sam’s personal list of ailments. Nevertheless, Sam’s girlfriend Hannah sometimes provisionally sews the most important wounds so that the nice telephonist from the insurance company may keep her job!
