Nadine grew up in Frutigen (BE), a little village in the moun-tains of Switzerland. She’s been asked many times how a girl of the Swiss mountains found her way to Beach Volley-ball.
Being not very talented in the typical sports of her alpine environment (ie. skiing), she soon found a passion for Volleyball. Despite not having the perfect physical requirements for a Volleyball player, she worked very hard.
After several year of indoor, she started playing Beach Vol-leyball and had the great chance to team up with Simone Kuhn in 2009. This great opportunity made her work even harder to prove that she deserved it. The new team Kuhn/Zumkehr was already rewarded in their first year of partnership by winning the bronze medal at the European Championships and the gold medal in Sanya (China) during the 2009 Swatch FIVB World Tour.
Defensive play! Nadine loves when a game gets really tight and when every single point counts as a “big point”!
Nadine is a primary school teacher and is really looking forward to getting started after her Beach Volleyball career. The new team Kuhn/Zumkehr was already rewarded in their first year of partnership by winning the bronze medal at the European Championships and the gold medal in Sanya (China) during the 2009 Swatch FIVB World Tour.
On court, Nadine is a very focused and hard working athlete. She always wants to show her best Beach Volleyball. “Off court”, she really likes to get away from all the focus and concentration and simply relax. She loves to hang out with friends and family and likes to not constantly be seen as a Beach Volleyball athlete. Even if the sport is an important part of her life, there are many other things that count!
She grew up in Gerlisberg, a small village near Kloten. A neighbor told her that with her size and agility, volleyball would be good a sport for her.
She started playing volleyball with Züri Unterland and played for 3 years in the Swiss NLA in Schaffhausen. She played beach volleyball in the sum-mer and was then called to the national team.
At the end of summer, Nadine Zumkehr asked, if Joana would play with her, and of course she immediately said yes :) and their major goal now is to prepare for the 2016 Olympics in Rio.
Joana says she has to work a lot, but she loves playing and working to make a career in volleyball. She is very ambitious and works hard for her dream.
She’s a good defensive player and loves to block (“it’s just a great feeling”). She also loves the tough games when she and her partner are behind but fight hard to even the score and can then go on to win the game.
Joana has completed a commercial apprenticeship and plans to earn a professional diploma. She would like to work as a physiotherapist.
Joana has worked very hard to get to the top, and beach volleyball is very important in her life. When she has free time she enjoys spending it with her family and friends. She also likes going to the cinema and meeting colleagues.
