  • 2013|02|04 SWATCH WELCOMES CHINESE NEW YEAR WITH COLOURFUL SPECIAL

Swatch is proud to present THE LEGEND OF WHITE SNAKE, a Swatch Special created in advance of the imminent Chinese New Year celebrations. Set to begin February 10, 2013, the traditional 15-day Chinese New Year celebrations bring family and friends together to enjoy a variety of festive events. Every year, Swatch contributes to the Chinese New Year festivities by creating a special Swatch watch.

2013 brings THE LEGEND OF WHITE SNAKE, a high-spirited New Gent featuring a multicoloured snake weaving its way across a white silicone strap. Popular tradition in China associates each year of the 12-year zodiac cycle with an animal, and persons born in a particular year are said to share certain attributes with the zodiac animal. As the key symbol of Chinese Spirit, persons born in the Year of the Snake are thought likely to be smart, flexible and intelligent. The Snake is also believed to bring good fortune and wisdom to everyone born under its sign.

  • 2013|01|31 SWATCH UNWRAPS VALENTINE'S SPECIAL

You’re crazy in love? Say it out loud! Make it perfectly clear with A LA FOLIE — the Swatch watch that says, ”I’m mad about you.”

“True love has nothing to hide”, says Swatch, and proves the point with A LA FOLIE, created especially for Valentine’s Day. The new Swatch Special, a Gent, presents a clear, heart-shaped window in the dial that opens onto the mechanics below. A look through the glass underlines the “no secrets” message: the “heart” of the watch is a movement featuring a handful of romance-coloured components. And what’s that lovely fragrance? It’s the bracelet—it smells like vanilla!

The lovely A LA FOLIE Valentine’s Day Special comes in special packaging with a charming variation on the open-heart theme. A round, pink ball has a smooth white heart on the surface, but a closer look shows the heart is a window onto A LA FOLIE — True love is here, for all to see.

  • 2012|08|20 Swatch & Art - Birdhead

The latest design introduced under the Swatch & Art banner is New Gent Ma-jestic Bird (SUOZ707S), a stunning watch limited and numbered to an edition of 1`888 pieces, with special packaging, created by Ji Weiyu and Song Tao of the contemporary art duo, Birdhead. The design arises from Birdhead`s ongoing preoccupation with the medium of photography and the various ways in which photographic processes can explore and document the passing of time. A delicate black and white palette has been deployed by the duo, ensuring this particular time piece whispers rather than shouts its presence, while its pleasingly-grainy photo-print surface encourages a wonderful sense of ambiguity. The watch is made from a neat combination of plastic and silicone. The packaging, by contrast, elegantly utilises cardboard and comes in a precise 12cm x 12cm cube shape, featuring a dramatic close-up of the same bird head image used upon the watch.

41 degrees. About 500 truck loads of dirt. 15 different kickers. Texas was bigger and better again. At the third stop of the Red Bull X-Fighters Tour, Swatch athlete Mat Rebeaud took second place. With a sick run in the quarter finals against Twitch, Mat was on fire enough to go through in the Semi too to go head to head with Nate Adams in the Final. Mat is currently 2nd in the X-Fighters Overall standings. Winner of the last Tour stop in Calgary and Swatch Outlaw, Robbie Maddison, showed that Texas is a place for real men. The Australian dislocated a shoulder after landing heavily before then popping it back in himself. But this could not stop him from showing the crowed why he was considered one of the top FMX riders in the world and hit the ramps even time was already up!

  • 2009|01|29 THE SWATCH O’NEILL BIG MOUNTAIN PRO 2009
December 10, 2008 – Adopting Europe´s vast alpine ranges as a play-ground for exploration and adventure, The Swatch O´Neill Big Mountain Pro returns for 2009 with more promise than ever.

The concept remains the same – 12 of the world´s best freeriders reaching some of the most challenging and varied backcountry terrain that the mountains have to offer.

The inspirational mobile format of the event ensures that the riders are free to roam the Alps with no fixed destination in a quest to find the best snow and mountain faces for the varying conditions.

The success and popularity of the rider judged format of the competition sees its continuation for the third year running. Wherever the final face may be, the riders will head to Saalbach-Hinterglemm back in Austria for the unique judging session where they all judge each other´s runs. An overall winner will be crowned, as well as a winner for skiing and one for snowboarding, with a total prizemoney of $60,000 on offer.

The Swatch O´Neill Big Mountain Pro 2009 will kick off on February 3rd St. Anton in the Arlberg range in the Austrian Alps – the birthplace of alpine skiing and the freeride mecca of Austria.

For Mitch Toelderer, the Austrian start brings an added element of excitement to the event. “It´s great it starts in my home country,” he says. “The whole area is an incredible place for freeriding. I´m excited because I´m sure I´ll get to places in Austria that I´ve never been before.”

Where it will head from there is anyone´s guess – the only certain element is that it will follow the best snow conditions, and will end with a spectacular party in Saalbach-Hinterglemm on February 10th.

Daily highlights of The Swatch O´Neill Big Mountain Pro can be seen on www.bigmountainpro.com

  • 2008|06|16 MAT REBEAUD RIDES TO RODEO-STYLE WIN
Fort Worth, Tex. (June 15, 2008) – Swiss superstar Mat Rebeaud flew to victory at Red Bull X-Fighters Texas on Saturday night. Twelve of the world’s best freestyle motocross riders turned the historic Stockyards district into their own personal playground, and the action was as hot as Texas baked beans. The combination of freestyle motocross and rodeo was witnessed by more than 20,000 fans, plus an additional 20,000-plus people outside of the venue, turning the area into a standstill, marking the first-ever Red Bull X-Fighters in America. The event featured rodeo queens, cowboys, and a rodeo chute, where the riders blasted out of to start their runs. Rounding out the top-three finishers were Americans Jeremy “Twitch” Stenberg and Jeremy Lusk, who claimed second and third place respectively.

Rebeaud, who won the season opener in Mexico City, could barely believe his victory. “This is my first win in America,” he said. “I gave it everything on my last jump and if anything had gone wrong, I would have paid heavily.”

The Swiss star knew he had to go big and pulled a Backflip Superman Indie over the 20-foot-high quarterpipe on his last run of the evening. “That was absolutely decisive for the win. I was under massive pressure, but the feeling of relief now is indescribable,” said Rebeaud.

After being forced to concede defeat in the final, Stenberg paid respect to his Swiss colleague. “I am disappointed because I made a mistake, but I have to congratulate Mat,” Stenberg said. “He risked everything and deserved to win. The motto ‘Everything’s bigger in Texas’ was omnipresent here and this hard course has left its marks on all the riders.”

The riders competed on a Texas-sized course created by esteemed designer Dane Herron, which featured 13,000 cubic yards of dirt sculpted onto a 300-foot by 400-foot pad of land. Among the features were seven competition ramps with gaps ranging from 75-feet to 120-feet, two custom metal quarterpipes and several multi-directional dirt hits for the riders to choose from in their 90-second runs. The centerpiece of the course was the dirt quarterpipe, where the riders went for big air.
