SWATCH MARKS THREE DECADES OF THE WATCH THAT CHANGED THE WORLD
March, 2013. The watch that changed the world was born 30 years ago. March 1, 1983, the first 12 models made their debut. Looking back now, they seem unlikely heroes, but events soon revealed their true identity: they were the avant-garde, the shock troops of a revolution named Swatch. Today, after three decades of sly wit, audacious innovation, playful provocation and inexhaustible joie de vivre, Swatch has every reason to celebrate. Those first 12 watches from 1983 have been followed by millions, and now there is one that brings it all back to mind — the impossible, incredible story of Swatch: SWATCH Est. 1983 (SUOZ161). A New Gent, SWATCH Est. 1983 features a transparent plastic case and strap and a skeleton dial offering a clear view of the movement within. Key components are highlighted in gold; on one, a golden driving wheel, the word CELEBRATE appears twice, in black. And printed in gold on a broad silver band are all those extraordinary years, from 1983 to 2013. Each year brings back memories of one or another fantastic Swatch watch: a POP, Scuba 200, heavy-metal Irony, colourful Gent, seductive Skin or high-tech Touch — not to mention those amazing creations by artists, athletes, fashion designers and — who could possibly forget? — the first Swatch watch you ever owned …!
Swatch delivers an explosive bundle of fun—just in time for summer. It’s bound to be a noisy arrival, with bright, crazy colours, exuberant spirits and the irresistible feel of sun, salt and sand on your skin. The carefree spirit is everywhere, from the open-air bars and street cafés to long, white sandy beaches and the crash and roar of rolling surf. The new Spring/Summer Collection 2013 delights the eye and quickens the heart.
Swatch confirms its signature style with a wide variety of new models, an adventurous selection of contemporary, ethnic-inspired designs and high-spirited, splash-happy colours. Summer’s here, with Swatch!
Swatch is proud to present THE LEGEND OF WHITE SNAKE, a Swatch Special created in advance of the imminent Chinese New Year celebrations. Set to begin February 10, 2013, the traditional 15-day Chinese New Year celebrations bring family and friends together to enjoy a variety of festive events. Every year, Swatch contributes to the Chinese New Year festivities by creating a special Swatch watch.
2013 brings THE LEGEND OF WHITE SNAKE, a high-spirited New Gent featuring a multicoloured snake weaving its way across a white silicone strap. Popular tradition in China associates each year of the 12-year zodiac cycle with an animal, and persons born in a particular year are said to share certain attributes with the zodiac animal. As the key symbol of Chinese Spirit, persons born in the Year of the Snake are thought likely to be smart, flexible and intelligent. The Snake is also believed to bring good fortune and wisdom to everyone born under its sign.
You’re crazy in love? Say it out loud! Make it perfectly clear with A LA FOLIE — the Swatch watch that says, ”I’m mad about you.”
“True love has nothing to hide”, says Swatch, and proves the point with A LA FOLIE, created especially for Valentine’s Day. The new Swatch Special, a Gent, presents a clear, heart-shaped window in the dial that opens onto the mechanics below. A look through the glass underlines the “no secrets” message: the “heart” of the watch is a movement featuring a handful of romance-coloured components. And what’s that lovely fragrance? It’s the bracelet—it smells like vanilla!
The lovely A LA FOLIE Valentine’s Day Special comes in special packaging with a charming variation on the open-heart theme. A round, pink ball has a smooth white heart on the surface, but a closer look shows the heart is a window onto A LA FOLIE — True love is here, for all to see.
At the inaugural, thrill-packed Ice Cross Downhill Team Challenge on Friday, November 30, Swiss Ice skaters and Swatch Proteam Members Kilian Braun, Kim Mueller and Jim de Paoli defeated the Kyle Croxall-led International Gladiators on a freezing cold night of action opposite Niagara Falls. The Swatch Proteam, led by veteran ace Kilian Braun, came out on top in the ferocious battle against the International Gladiators, led by reigning world champion Kyle Croxall of Canada.
“The Team Challenge is a new competition and it’s great to be the first team to win it. It’s awesome! For the crowd it’s cool to see six riders on the track at the same time… there are more hits, more battles. It’s a lot of fun!” Kilian Braun
In the thrill-packed final on Saturday, Killian Braun battled down the treacherous 460-meter long ice track in front of 35,000 spectators and finished 3rd behind second-year man Cameron Naasz of the United States and defending champion and winner Kyle Croxall from Canada.

SWATCH CAPTURES COLOUR IN MOTION WITH BIG AUTOMATIC COLLECTION
Swatch captures all the excitement and fascination of mechanical watch movements with six new Irony Big Automatics: the iconic Swiss watch and jewellery maker makes use of a clear case back and high-contrast colour to render the rotor and movement the focus of attention in the Big Automatic Collection. The 37.4 mm case features a clear case back offering a wide-open view of the automatic movement’s intricate mechanics, and the brightly coloured rotor-in-motion is so captivating it’s almost hypnotic.
Iconic Swatch design, on-trend colour and a fascinating Swiss made mechanical movement makes the Irony Big Automatic an irresistible way to watch time in motion.
Swatch, the in style Swiss watch and jewellery maker’s latest collection takes the wraps off a colourful set of five glittery, high-gloss Gents. With the holiday season and the New Year just around the corner, there are plenty of reasons to celebrate.
From Swiss watch and jewellery maker Swatch come three New Gents attired in cool shades of trend-smart colours. New Gent Coloured blends the brand’s forthright use of colour and convincing design with the New Gent’s smooth, curving lines and generous 43 mm case. Each model features a single colour block stretching across the silicone strap and plastic case to a matching sunbrushed dial, enhanced by high-contrast coloured indexes and day/date window at 3 o’clock. The brand has chosen three sophisticated colours: a muted taupe, a cool shade of blue-grey, and a rich dark brown, each heightened by traces of high-contrast colour that lure the eye swiftly to the dial. The result is pure simplicity and style.
SWATCH TURNS IRONIC IN A PLAYFUL CHRONO TRIO
Timing is everything, as Swiss watch and jewellery maker Swatch well knows. Its latest offering is a trend-smart trio from the always elegant Irony Chrono Collection. The new models embody the brand’s deft touch for design, assured sense of style and instinctive grasp of the latest developments in the global village.
The latest design introduced under the Swatch & Art banner is New Gent Ma-jestic Bird (SUOZ707S), a stunning watch limited and numbered to an edition of 1`888 pieces, with special packaging, created by Ji Weiyu and Song Tao of the contemporary art duo, Birdhead. The design arises from Birdhead`s ongoing preoccupation with the medium of photography and the various ways in which photographic processes can explore and document the passing of time. A delicate black and white palette has been deployed by the duo, ensuring this particular time piece whispers rather than shouts its presence, while its pleasingly-grainy photo-print surface encourages a wonderful sense of ambiguity. The watch is made from a neat combination of plastic and silicone. The packaging, by contrast, elegantly utilises cardboard and comes in a precise 12cm x 12cm cube shape, featuring a dramatic close-up of the same bird head image used upon the watch.
The latest Swatch & Art designs draw inspiration from the fascinating world of tattoo art. Five astounding watches have been produced in collaboration with the French tattoo artist Tin-Tin - who has created three time pieces for Swatch - and the Swiss visual artist, Emmanuelle Antille, who has designed two time pieces inspired by tattoos done by Filip Leu. The artists` watches are presented in specially packaged sleeves, adorned with printed extracts from their unique designs, reinforcing the desirability of each stunning time piece.
For the latest Swatch & Fashion Collection, iconic Swiss watch and jewellery maker Swatch has once more collaborated with the Chinese fashion designer, Uma Wang, whose work is widely admired for being both adventurous yet accessible. The highly desirable limited edition New Gent design now created by Uma Wang is evocatively named Black Dancing Rose (SUOZ132S), and follows on from two gorgeous New Gent watches previously produced by the designer in tandem with Swatch, successfully unveiled back in March 2012. Using a lavish mix of plastic and real leather surfaces, Black Dancing Rose - limited and numbered in an edition of 777 pieces and presented in special packaging - is not only an aesthetic and romantic sensation, but also subtly communicates cerebral notions relating to heritage, craft and the eternal nature of time itself.
