Bobby Martinez lives between two worlds. In the predominantly white-skinned surf cosmos the 25 year old is treated as the next Kelly Slater — world champion-to-be and surfing hope per se. In the ghetto-like Westside of his hometown Santa Barbara, he is merely a ridiculous poser on a surfboard as far as the Hispanics are concerned. Yet if it wouldn’t be for surfing Bobby would now probably be in jail or would be the head of a Latino gang. But the son of Mexican immigrants wanted only one thing: acceptance!
