STEFANO OGLIARI BADESSI ON THE PATIO AT THE SWATCH GROUP ITALIA.
The talented young Italian artist comes to Swatch in Milan starting October 15th.
Swatch and art: a strong, ancestral link that has been renewed over and over again since 1984, and now culminates in The Swatch Art Peace Hotel project, a historic building on the Bund in Shanghai where the Swiss brand celebrates art with two floors of studios, exhibition spaces and lodgings for artists from all over the world.
Stefano Ogliari Badessi’s project was born in this natural incubator for creativity, and comes to Milan starting October 15th: a pop-up work of art installed on the 5th floor patio of The Swatch Group Italia’s headquarters at the former Borletti workshop on Via Washington, a historic building in Milan that has played an important role in the city’s recent history.
Also known as S.O.B, Stefano Ogliari Badessi is a talented young Italian creative artist who graduated with a diploma from the Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera in Milan and was then an artist-in-residence at The Swatch Art Peace Hotel in Shanghai. Ogliari Badessi sees art primarily in terms of its relationship with place, which makes art compatible with the concept of travel. This is why he makes his installations strictly from objects readily available on site. His artwork consists of a blow-up object with no frame, kept inflated by a constantly running fan. He made it out of little colored pieces of paper like those used for gift wrap and ordinary scotch tape. The result is a highly evocative experiential space made up of lights and colours, where you can “go inside” and give free rein to your emotions.
The installation on the patio of The Swatch Group Italia is visually reflected in other compositions of colored pieces of paper in similar style on the windows. And a special hashtag, #SWATCHLOVESART, underlines the brand’s commitment to the world of art. Swatch is also Official Watch and Time Keeper at Expo in Milan and has sent a selection of artists from The Swatch Art Peace Hotel to the 56th International Art Exhibition of la Biennale di Venezia. Art and Swatch always go hand in hand!
