Swatch presents two awards at 70th Locarno Festival
This year marked the 70th anniversary of the world-renowned film festival hosted in Switzerland’s Canton Ticino, and Swatch was proud to serve once again as Official Partner of the event. Complementing its partnership with the Locarno Festival and its involvement in the world of art, the Swiss watchmaker presented two awards.
The Swatch First Feature Award, worth 15,000 Swiss francs, recognized the best first full-length narrative film and was presented to Georgia’s Ana Urushadze for her film SASHISHI DEDA (“Scary Mother”). SASHISHI DEDA is about a 50-year-old housewife who sacrifices everything when she chooses her love for writing over her family life. The First Feature Jury also awarded Turkey’s Gürcan Keltek, director of the black-and-white film METEORLAR (“Meteors”), with the Swatch Art Peace Hotel Award. He received an invitation for a three-to-six-month residency at the Swatch Art Peace Hotel in Shanghai, China where he will join artists and creative visionaries from around the world. Since opening in 2011, the hotel has welcomed more than 260 artists who have helped shape the contemporary art scene.
