The 2019 Corona J-Bay Open will bring the surfing world to South Africa’s Jeffreys Bay for fierce competition on one of the most exciting stops on the WSL Championship Tour. In “Bless the Rains,” a new Swatch-powered video, we see Courtney Conlogue getting up close and personal with J-Bay’s famous surfing areas and South Africa’s other natural wonders.
The J-Bay competition is of paramount importance again this year as it plays a key role in Olympic Games qualifications. Surfing will be welcomed to the Games in Tokyo next year and the world rankings at the end of the 2019 Championship Tour will determine 18 of the 40 available spots (8 women, 10 men).
“Bless the Rains” was shot on a Kodak by director and video producer Dillon Chang. Cutting between views of South Africa’s wildlife – elephants, whales and dolphins – and Courtney’s fluid turns with her own wild side displayed in the form of a leo-print sleeve, the video captures our Proteam Athlete making the most of this stunning surfing hotspot. Currently she’s ranked fifth in the WSL Women’s 2019 Championship Tour and she has a new trophy to show for her victory at the Rip Curl Pro Bells Tour in April.
The event in J-Bay in 2018 marked a milestone in her surfing career as it was the first competition where she was back at 100% after overcoming her foot injury. She’s on track for big success this year and from the shots of her flawless moves in this short film, her competitors have their work cut out for them. J-Bay is phenomenal every year, but as surfers begin to set their sights on Olympic Gold, the event is of even greater importance. Courtney looks ready to continue her best season yet and hang on tight to her top-five position in the WSL rankings.
Check out “Bless the Rains” to see Courtney at her best as she gears up for the Corona J-Bay Open in July.
