In the fifth installment of our Life of a Drone Racer video series, we hear from UFO’s competitors. UFO started the season with all odds stacked against him, but this rookie has made quite an impression on his fellow DRL pro racers.

Less time to practice, starting the season late, missing the chance to actually prepare for professional racing – when UFO went from sim pilot to pro, there was very little in his favor. Except for talent. That is something he has plenty of, and despite the struggles he’s faced this season, his competitors see it and they are impressed.

“UFO did pretty well. He was really, really fast and it was fun battling with him. Sometimes you are less lucky, but that happens to all pilots,” ShaggyFPV said.

His motivation to do well and learn from his mistakes and losses are two traits that the other DRL pilots respect. And his ability to overcome pressure is something they should definitely watch out for.

“Some of the advice I would give to UFO and other pilots coming out of the simulator is that they have to also practice outside. They cannot just practice in the simulator,” JAWZ said.

Wild Willy backed up JAWZ’s advice, saying that even though the simulator is close to how a real drone flies, it’s not a perfect simulation.

“If you feel good on the simulator, it’s definitely a good idea to back up those skills by flying real drones and doing the same kinds of things,” he said.

Those are wise words for anyone thinking about taking their drone racing pastime to the next level.

Amazing and blazing fast, UFO definitely has what it takes to dominate the drone racing scene. As soon as the rookie nervousness that all pros are familiar with wears off, there won’t be anything standing in his way – except for the obstacles on the course.
