Giving freeriding an artistic twist, Swatch Proteam skier Nico Vuignier has filmed and edited several viral videos that creatively capture his sport from a different perspective. With “Heatseeker,” which also features Sam Anthamatten, another Proteam free rider, things really start to warm up.
Nico breaks away from the usual way of filming by getting creative with how he uses the camera. The tech he uses really takes a beating being tossed, swung and flipped. Most of the time, there’s a lot of tinkering and taping involved, too.
Trippy and somehow out of this world, “Heatseeker” features some of the best night skiing we’ve ever seen. Every move Sam makes is illuminated by the glow of a mysterious red orb that follows him down the pristine backside of the mountain.
Why do we love this video so much? Because Nico and Sam have done something groundbreaking – turning their energetic sport into an art by highlighting the jaw-dropping aesthetics of freeriding. It’s a prime example of using creativity to bridge sport and art, and that’s what Swatch is all about!
The credit for the idea, the filming and the editing goes to Nico, who is no stranger to coming up with inventive ways of capturing freeriding on camera. Two of his previous videos - “Centriphone” and “Poor Man’s Selfie Drone” - have gone viral with over 4 million views and 600,000 views respectively.
