At Swatch, Destination Art is just one of the many ways we celebrate our passion for art and artists. Dedicated to a specific location and designed in collaboration with a local artist, each Destination Art watch is a unique, wearable piece of art. A PROMISE OF SUN is the latest release in the series, created by artist Enzo as a tribute to Amsterdam.
Born in 1991 in Le Puy-en-Velay, France, Enzo Pérès-Labourdette is an illustrator, artist, and author based in Amsterdam, recognized for his elegant style and imaginative worlds. He’s known for diving into all kinds of creative challenges, building a portfolio that’s earned recognition across the industry. In 2023, he collaborated with Swatch to create two sculptures for the P.C. Hooftstraat Swatch store in Amsterdam. The two large sculptures, each measuring 2 x 5 meters, depict fantastical versions of Amsterdam canal houses. The pieces were realized through wood milling and 3D printing, based on digital 3D models.
For the Swatch Destination Art Amsterdam watch, Enzo has created a poetic, graphic illustration inspired by the city’s iconic canal houses, shifting skies, and symbolic sun and moon motifs, which take over the watch as well as the special packaging. From the deep blue architectural patterns and layered cityscapes to the radiant sun, glow-in-the-dark details, and playful calendar wheel, A PROMISE OF SUN is a unique trip through the streets of the city, its culture and local characters.
“When Swatch asked me to design a watch that felt unmistakably Amsterdam, I immediately thought of that proud, stubborn joy we feel while biking through the city. Inspired by my “Star-Gazers Canal” sculptures in the Amsterdam Swatch Store, I created a kind of good-luck charm to wear while cycling in changing weather. A lucky sun to keep your wrist company, that transforms in a mysterious moon at night,” says Enzo.
Designed as a playful good‑luck charm for cyclists, yet perfect for anyone, it features a striking multi-coloured dial with glow-in-the-dark details and a playful calendar wheel at 6 o’clock that shifts between rain, rainbows and shooting stars. Housed in a 41 mm matte transparent blue biosourced case with a matching printed strap it captures the city’s poetic contrasts of light, architecture, and atmosphere.
