GRANCELONA is the latest release in the series, created by Javier Mariscal as a tribute to Barcelona.
Javier Mariscal, award‑winning multidisciplinary artist, brings boldness and playfulness to everything he creates. Embracing challenges, he has guided his career with one defining word: “freedom.” He has exhibited internationally with leading museums and design institutions and his work spans brand identity, furniture design, and large‑scale architectural projects.
For GRANCELONA, the Swatch Destination Art watch dedicated to Barcelona, Javier created an original mural at the Swatch store in Paseo de Gracia, placing the store at the heart of a vibrant map of Barcelona featuring over 60 iconic landmarks. A section of this mural, spans both GRANCELONA and its custom packaging.
With a vibrant color palette, the design shows a special depiction of the city, capturing its lively energy and the grandeur of both the centre and outskirts, which the artist considers as integral to its identity.
“Barcelona is one of the most beautiful cities in the world, and most of all, it’s my city. This new watch is a tribute to the Barcelona of today, a city that’s grown into something huge… GRANCELONA. The sea, the port, the central park, Tibidabo, the Diagonal and the way its streets and avenues come together shape the graphic identity of this new Swatch,” says Javier.
