Wastana Haikal is a visual artist and illustrator from Bandung, Indonesia, celebrated for his imaginative and expressive style. He draws creative inspiration from a wide array of sources, including movies, human interactions, and Indonesian culture.
For the Swatch Destination Art Indonesia watch, Wastana Haikal has created a design that spreads across the watch design as well as the special packaging. Taking full inspiration from Indonesia’s rich culture, the design encapsulates a vision of enduring harmony among Indonesians and with nature.
When creating the design, Wastana Haikal explored the fusion of traditional and modern styles, reinterpreting Indonesia’s traditional accessories into six imagined creatures, each symbolizing a different island in Indonesia (Sumatra, Java, Borneo, Sulawesi and Papua).
