Swatch Destination Art: Celebrating Hawaii’s surf and Aloha spirit

August 21, 2025

Art has the power to take you places

Swatch brings its love for art and artists to life through Destination Art, a series of watches that blend local culture with Swiss-Made timepieces. Each one is dedicated to a specific location and designed in collaboration with a local artist, making it a wearable piece of art. HAWAI'I NEI is the latest Destination Art watch in the series created by Nick Kuchar from O’ahu, Hawaii.

Nick’s vintage-inspired surf and travel prints pay homage to the islands he calls home. From digital illustrations and screen printing to acrylic paintings, his work reflects the natural beauty and nostalgic charm of island life. Whether sketching waves on the North Shore or soaking in inspiration on a jungle trail, Nick brings the spirit of Hawaii into every piece he creates.

For the Swatch Destination Art Hawaii watch, Nick has created a vibrant, surf-infused design that captures the essence of the islands. His illustration wraps the watch and special packaging in imagery inspired by Hawaii’s coastal culture—from barrelling waves on the North Shore to voyaging sailing canoes. ‘Iwa birds, coconut palms, and sea life drift through the design, evoking the islands’ natural beauty. The surfers’ swimsuits found on the dial change color by day, a clever nod to Hawaii’s iconic boardshort history from the 1950s.

From a vibrant tribute to the aloha spirit, to a lasting artistic memory of a Hawaiian escape, the Swatch Destination Art Hawaii watch is the ultimate expression of personal style and island love, making it a meaningful keepsake or the perfect gift.

Available from August 21, 2025, at the Ala Moana Center in Hawaii.

SWATCH AND ART

Positive provocation and joie de vivre made in Switzerland: since its founding in 1983, Swatch has shaken up the watch industry. Thanks to its striking designs which always reflect the zeitgeist, Swatch is one of the leading watch manufacturers and the most sought-after brands in the world — and has always stayed true to itself. The watchmaker continues to surprise, whether with regularly released new models or special collections.
