SWATCH DESTINATION ART: CELEBRATING TOKYO AND JAPAN, THROUGH THE LENS OF TIME

Art has the power to take you places

Swatch Destination Art is just one of the many ways Swatch celebrates its passion for art. Dedicated to a specific location and designed in collaboration with a local artist, each Swatch Destination Art watch is a unique, wearable piece of art. For this latest chapter, artist Shinji Tsuchimochi set out to capture the spirit of Tokyo in EXPRESSWAY TO THE FUTURE. With so much creativity, culture, and inspiration extending far beyond the capital, one watch simply wasn't enough. That's why Tsuchimochi also created BRIDGE TO THE PAST, a companion design dedicated to all of Japan. Together, the two watches offer distinct yet complementary perspectives on a destination full of character, contrast, and inspiration.
Shinji Tsuchimochi is a Tokyo-born illustrator known for his contemporary ukiyo-e style, blending traditional Japanese art of ukiyo-e with manga and anime. Influenced by Vincent van Gogh and Utagawa Hiroshige, he portrays urban landscapes and everyday subjects with warmth and affection.
For EXPRESSWAY TO THE FUTURE dedicated to Tokyo, Shinji Tsuchimochi has created a design centered on an expressway connecting the present and the future. Inspired by Tokyo's vast network of highways, where people, ideas and movement flow endlessly through the city, the artwork imagines a taxi soaring toward the moon along the road ahead. Combining the glowing green hues of Tokyo at night with the luminous trails of passing cars, this watch presents a dreamlike vision of the city's future.
For the companion piece BRIDGE TO THE PAST, the Swatch Destination Art watch dedicated to Japan, Shinji Tsuchimochi has created a design inspired by an Edo-era bridge that connects Japan’s past and present. From its wind chime-inspired colors and transparent skeleton details to its depiction of a summer evening illuminated by fireworks, this watch is a unique trip through the streets of the country, its culture and local characters.
"Time is a continuous thread that connects the past, the present, and the future, never ceasing in its movement", said Shinji Tsuchimochi of the concept that inspired the watches.
The two latest Swatch Destination Art watches dedicated to Tokyo and Japan celebrate the timeless charm and ever-evolving spirit of Japan, where past, present and future meet.
For locals, they are a celebration of the country and capital they know and love. For visitors, they are wearable keepsakes of unforgettable moments. And for anyone who appreciates creativity and self-expression, these Swatch Destination Art watches are unique pieces of art, making them the perfect souvenir, collector's item or gift.
Both watches will be available from October 16, 2026.
