The dial of OFF presents a black section surrounded by a multi-coloured image that extends from the dial to the strap: the black slice is a reminder, the artist says, to “take time off” – 5 seconds every minute, 5 minutes every hour – to do something completely different.

Artist Biography
José Carlos Casado
Spanish multimedia artist José Carlos Casado has created “OFF” , presented in a limited and numbered edition of 888 in special packaging, each accompanied by a unique watercolour signed by the artist. This edition will be sold exclusively in Venice. An additional 8,000 pieces will be sold at Swatch points of sale around the world.
José Carlos Casado works in video, photography, sculpture, drawing and performance. Born in Málaga, Spain, he earned an MFA at New York’s School of Visual Arts, specialising in computer art, and has been based in New York for the last fifteen years. His design for Swatch takes up common themes of his work: a combination of new technologies with traditional arts, and a confrontation of the real with the unreal/unconscious.
