Swatch takes to the Swiss slopes as the Title Sponsor of Swatch Nines 2023

12 July 2023

The world’s best freeskiers and snowboarding athletes gather for the high-adrenaline, high-altitude progression session.

2023 marks the epic start of Swatch as the title sponsor of Swatch Nines, which is considered the pinnacle event of the action sports calendar. The 31st winter edition kicks off in Schilthorn, Switzerland, from April 17-22, 2023, against the backdrop of the three towering mountains of Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau. The Nines first debuted in 2008 in Germany and has since evolved into a pioneering biannual event where athletes of the highest caliber come together to experiment, have fun and be free to try new things on revolutionary park designs.

“Swatch Nines is one of the few non-competitive events that attracts world-class talent while providing the season's most creative and spectacular setups. We’re excited to enter into this partnership that embodies the spirit of what action sports represent for Swatch. Swatch Nines will support athletes and emerging talents as an outlet of total freedom for creativity and personal expression.”- Swatch CEO, Alain Villard.

“We couldn’t be more pleased with our new partnership with Swatch. The combination of a partner like Swatch with such a deep heritage in action sports, and a venue that’s more visually spectacular than we’ve ever had before, will help propel Nines into a new era. This motivates us to keep reinventing ourselves, now and for years to come.” - Swatch Nines founder Nico Zacek

Action sports, art and creativity are at the heart of the Swatch DNA, and the biannual Swatch Nines is a seamless blend of all three. The vibe is like nothing else as a handful of the world’s leading snowboarders and freeskiers take to the mountains, send it large and have fun every step of the way. The public-access day, TV and social media coverage on the likes of GoPro and Red Bull means that people can witness unforgettable moments and maybe even world records being broken.

From castle to pure lines, the event not only sets the bar when it comes to creating outstanding setups¾it keeps raising it. Last year, Swatch went big for its first involvement, creating a spectacular watch-shaped natural snow obstacle with a dial measuring ten meters, where athletes produced tricks that defied gravity. As the 2023 title sponsor, the Swiss watchmaker will bring along some of its Proteam athletes, including Swiss freeskier Nico Vuignier, Swiss snowboarder Pat Burgener and Canadian snowboarder Laurie Blouin, for the ride of their lives.

Much more is in store for the Swatch Nines 2023, including a next-level design incorporating one of the world’s highest altitude skatepark to unite the most adrenaline-fuelled action sports disciplines. Some of the best riders of these disciplines designed the features together late last year during an exclusive Swatch workshop. One thing’s for sure; it will be thrilling to see how snowboarders and skateboarders flow and inspire new tricks and techniques when riding side by side.

Details on the athletes, schedule and final snow setup will be shared closer to the event.
